Low-key Dasara hits Mysuru's hotel industry

The government's decision to scale down Dasara has hit the hospitality sector hard. The business was down by about 20% Stock Market Trading Tips

Rajendra, president of the Karnataka Hotel Owners Association, said, "Hotels in the city did not do the expected business this year. Usually, the rooms are completely booked days in advance. However, this year it was not the case. Many rooms were empty even on Vijayadashami." 

Mysuru Zoo also witnessed lesser footfall this year. While 1.33 lakh people visited the zoo last year, the number came down to 1.25 lakh this year. The collection was also reduced from Rs 76.77 lakh to Rs 69.11 lakh. 

There was also a decline in the number of train passengers from Mysuru. On Vijayadashami as many as 28,951 tickets were issued at Mysuru railway station while last year it was 29,071 tickets. However, as against the trend Mysuru Palace received more visitors this year. In 2014, 69,987 people visited the palace. This has increased to 82,188 this year. 

On October 24 as many as 32,076 people visited the palace as against 23,574 visitors last year. 

Subramanya, deputy director of the Mysuru Palace Board, said "The low-key festivities did not affect the number of visitors to the palace."
