Nashik farmers rue higher freight charges

Banana growers in Bhusawal, who contributed to the Railway's earnings from parcels, are looking elsewhere because of policy change. Earnings from parcels have dropped by 25% due to the increased rates in the last six months.

The parcel service generated Rs 17.54 crore against last year's Rs 23.16 crore. Parcel earnings from Nashik, Jalgaon, Bhusawal and Manmad have dropped by Rs 5.62 crore this fiscal. Last year, the Railways earned Rs 23.16 crore during the same period Stock Market Trading Tips

"The Railways get business from banana growers as farm produce is transported from Savda, Raver and Nimbora. Rakes were deployed daily to transport goods till last year. This year, the demand has gone down significantly. The rates are too high," said DK Mahajan, president of farmers-traders association at Savda.

Raghav Patil from Raver said that the Railways are now insisting that we go for bigger wagons and also book the entire rake. "We are farmers. We can't afford to book an entire rake on a single day. Earlier, there were smaller bogies and there were no pre-conditions," he said.

Ramdas Patil, president of Raver traders said that farmers had the capacity to book single rake of 22 smaller (VPU) wagons — rather than 42 bigger (BCN) wagons Himanshu Tiwari Astrologer Blog

"It is easier to book 4,400 quintal load in VPU wagons (capacity of 220 quintal) than to book over 15,000 quintal for BCN wagons (capacity 360 quintal). We are unable to find market and bulk arrival of the produce decreases its value. Now, traders and growers are opting for road transport which also offers door-to-door service," Patil said.

Moreover, the Railways was giving discount which they stopped this year. "Earlier, we could pack 4,400 quintals of banana at one go. Now, we are forced to look for 15,000 quintal of banana. It is not feasible to transport this huge quantity. The Railways should have allowed us to book quantity-wise instead of increasing wagon capacity and make it mandatory to book an entire rake," he added Indian stock market astrology prediction
